Usually, when a Temperature of an object is decreased, then the Density of that object is increased. 

Therefore, Temperature is indirectly proportional to Density

But this isn't the case with water, water contracts as its temperature is lessened except from 4 ° centigrade to 0 ° centigrade. In this temperature range, instead of constricting water expands and thickness becomes lower. The abnormal property of water is known as an Anomalous Expansion Of Water.

Water molecules are made up of 2 Oxygen and 1 Hydrogen molecule with a solid intermolecular force of lodestone.

At room temperature, water molecules move inside a receptacle freely in the erratic shift.

On cooling, as the energy of water molecules decreases and erratic shift of water molecules squeezes.

As we downsize the temperature, water molecules come closer and closer, and Hydrogen bonds are formed between Hydrogen molecules of 1 molecule and Oxygen molecules of other molecules.

This format of Hydrogen bonds prevents further condensing of water, and the thickness of water reaches its maximum value.

This unusual water property helps marine life survive in polar regions where the average temperature is below 0° centigrade.
