Is RO Purified Water good for Health:
We have heard a lot of doctors say that a man can live a healthy life only if he drinks three litres of water a day. The water we regularly take from a well or river may contain accumulated bacteria or viruses, which can be harmful to the body if we drink it as it is. This is why at that time, we were drinking boiled water. Now we have a big RO system house to house beyond boiling and drinking the water that comes from it. However, you may have heard some people say that drinking RO water can cause harm. So, now we are going to see if drinking RO water is good or bad for our health.
You may have known that water contains Bacteria-like Micro-organisms, but many of us have never had the opportunity to see it with a microscope. But even if we have a tiny laser light, we can see the bacteria in the water at home without a microscope. Let's see how it is now.
- Now we can take the tap water that we usually have in the syringe.
- Let's have only one drop of water at the tip of the syringe needle.
- Now, this water drop acts as a lens.
- Now, if we shed some laser light on this water droplet, we can see that it falls on the Micro-organism in that one drop of water and its shadow looks more significant to us.
If we want to kill the Micro-organism we have just seen, these Micro-organisms will automatically die if the water is boiled above 100°C.
Now we take sample RO purified water and the example of boiled water, and we will compare both with the experiment we have already done.
If you look at this research, you will know that the Micro-organisms in the boiled water are dead, but there are no Bacteria or other Micro-organisms in the water made by the RO purifier system.
You may ask why I should buy an RO system if all the germs die while boiling the water. But water contains not only Micro-organisms but also a lot of Salts and Minerals, most essential minerals like Magnesium and Calcium, which our body needs.
Just as water contains Salt and Minerals, it also contains dust and dirty particles mixed in water.
How much of the solid particles in the water is mixed, and the Total Dissolved Solids in that water are called TDS.
The TDS level of water available in Coastal and Industrial areas is higher than normal. If we drink this water regularly, we are more likely to get Kidney problems, Heart attacks and Cancer.
Generally, the TDS level of groundwater in the Industrial area is high.
Suppose we take water that has a high level of TDS like this and boiled it. We know that the Micro-organisms in it will die, but whatever we boil, the dissolved solid parties in the water will remain the same.
As I have already said, when we drink water that is high in TDS, the risk to our body is very, very high.
Just to fix this problem, RO comes in. What this RO system does to water with high TDS levels is Inside this RO system, there will be a filter called Semi-Permeable Membrane similar to the filter we use at home, which will have tiny holes, the size of these holes will be smaller than Micro-organisms and dissolved solids. Thus when water is pressed from one side with high pressure, all these Micro-organisms and other stuff are filtered, and pure water is sent to the other side. This is what we called Reverse Osmosis, i.e. RO.
However, the problem with RO is that when water is filtered, it goes beyond Micro-organisms and its solids particles and filters out the essential minerals our body needs, which is why many people say that drinking RO water is harmful to the body.
But it is definitely not a big deal because we can easily replace the minerals that we lost in the water by eating nutritious foods.
So all the people in the Coastal and Industrial areas are better off drinking RO purified water than drinking boiled water.
Those who say I can't afford to buy it too much, please boil the water well, then buy cheap RO filters sold in the market and pour boiled water in it and then drink.
